A ministra Cármen Lúcia, do Supremo Tribunal Federal, renunciou nesta quarta-feira, 8 de abril de 2026, à Presidência do Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE). Ela deveria permanecer no cargo até junho de 2026, quando completaria o mandato de dois anos à frente da Corte Eleitoral.

A renúncia foi comunicada oficialmente ao plenário do TSE e ao Supremo Tribunal Federal. Cármen Lúcia justificou a decisão por motivos pessoais e institucionais, sem entrar em detalhes. A ministra vinha exercendo a presidência desde junho de 2024, tendo substituído o ministro Alexandre de Moraes.

Com a saída de Cármen Lúcia, assume automaticamente a presidência do TSE o ministro Nunes Marques, que já ocupava a vice-presidência da Corte Eleitoral. Nunes Marques, também ministro do STF, deverá comandar o tribunal até junho de 2026, quando ocorrerá nova eleição interna para escolha do próximo presidente.
